About this experience
Even if the last time you held a brush was at school, you're in the right place. Painting is one of the oldest forms of meditation people have. The moment you start really looking at something - a ridge line, the way light hits a tree, the colour of the sky, your nervous system slows down. Thoughts get quieter. Time stops behaving normally. It's why painting sits so well here, especially after yoga or breathwork session. It extends the calm instead of breaking it. There's no skill required and no expectation about the outcome. The point isn't the painting you walk away with but the hour or two of presence you spent making it. When the day's bright, we set up outdoors on the yoga platform with the Adjarian ridges right in front of you. When it isn't, we head into the shala, same paint, same calm, just under a roof.
What to expect
- All materials provided - paint, brushes, pencils, paper, easels
- 1–2 hours of slow, meditative focus
- Outdoor session on the yoga platform with Adjarian mountain views, or in the shala if weather turns
- Led by our team member Irina (MA of Arts), who helps if you want help
- Free-form: paint the view, a memory, an abstract feeling, anything
- No skill required, beginners are exactly who this is for
- Hot drinks within reach, phones encouraged off
- You take your painting home
Good to know
Especially for you. The whole point is that there's no skill required and no outcome to live up to. People who say "I can't paint" usually end up the most surprised by what comes out, and by how good they feel afterwards.
Because the place does half the work. Real silence, mountain air, the smell of pine, light that keeps changing, your senses are already engaged before you start. It's why people describe it as closer to meditation than to a class.
Most people finish in 1–2 hours, but the workshop runs at the speed of the group. Some get into a flow state and lose track of time, which is exactly what you want.
Absolutely, the free-form setup is perfect for kids. For deeper retreat-focused sessions (paired with yoga or meditation), adults-only tends to keep the atmosphere right.
“I came expecting yoga to be the deep part of the retreat. The painting afternoon turned out to be where I really went quiet. Two hours and I felt like I'd come back to myself.”
