A full day at Ghorjomi, the upland valley our horse partner family lives in. The middle of the day is a 4-hour horse ride through alpine meadows and forest trails — at a pace that anyone who's sat on a horse before can handle. The guides are family members; they've grown up with these horses. Lunch happens at the family's home — homemade khachapuri, fresh-baked bread, soup, whatever's in season. After lunch the route back is the long, slow way through the villages, with a few stops for photos. Works well for retreat groups looking for one big outdoor day. Not ideal for total beginners on horses — the trail has some moderately technical sections — but acceptable for anyone willing to walk if they don't want to ride a particular stretch.
